We’re heading towards the end of 2019 and somehow, Netflix isn’t planning on slowing down on
releasing more epic home entertainment for us all to enjoy. As huge film and TV fans, we’re
definitely not complaining.
2019 has so far been an incredible year for Netflix. We’ve seen the likes of the final season of Game
of Thrones, Season 8 (nope, now is not the time to debate that ending), as well as a number of other
popular shows, including Stranger Things, Orange Is the New Black, and Black Mirror, returning and
giving fans what they love the most – captivating home entertainment at its best.
As Africans, we were also excited to witness and hear about more local shows making their way onto
the platform. Shadow is a South African original web series that has been keeping up entertained
since its release on March 2019. There have also been talks about Queen Sono, another African
original series that’s due to come to our screens in early 2020.
Considering all of the entertainment that the platform is already providing us, what else could
Netflix possibly have to offer?
Well, judging by our list…apparently a lot. And the best part? Whether you have a TV, a smartphone,
a tablet, or a streaming media player, you can enjoy all of this entertainment at your convenience.
Now, as usual, there are a lot of films, series, documentaries and the likes that will be making their
ways to Netflix soon, however, we thought we should compile a list of some shows and movies that
we are waiting on in anticipation.

The Politician (new)

If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted musical/comedy, The Politician won’t disappoint. Starring
Ben Platt, Lucy Boyton and Gwyneth Paltrow, this upcoming series takes a hilarious look at the life of
a wealthy High School student who’s got his heart set on becoming the American President one day
but needs to first survive High School.
First episode release date: 27 of September 2019.

Disenchantment (Season 2)

To all The Simpsons and Futurama fans out there, you’ll be glad to know that the shows’ creator,
Matt Groening, has taken on another adult animation sitcom in Disenchantment. This satire fantasy
sitcom is set in the medieval kingdom of “Dreamland”. The first season of the show aired in 2018
and after getting great reviews, the show will be back again for another season.
Second Season release date: 20 September 2019

Elite (Season 2)

High School dramas seem to be loved by the masses. If you don’t believe us, think of how successful
shows such as Glee, Gossip Girl, Riverdale, and Big Little Lies have been. Not sure if their success has
something to do with the epic plot twists at the end of each episodes or the ridiculously good
looking youth who seem to be defying puberty (seriously, who looked that good in High School?),
whatever the reason, fans can’t get enough of these shows.
Elite seems to be following in the footsteps of some of the mentioned successful shows in this genre.
After a great first season in 2018, fans can expect to see more drama, more plot twists, and of
course, more good-looking people in the upcoming second season.
Second Season release date: 6 September 2019

Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father (Season 3)

If you’ve ever experienced (and survived) a family road trip before, you’ll connect instantly to this
show. Comic, Jack Whitehall, invites us on his trips around the world with his father as they try to
strengthen their bond. Previous seasons have seen the pair make their ways to various destinations
such as Siem Reap, Phuket, and Bangkok. Can’t wait to see where the pair will end up in this
upcoming season.
Third Season release date: 27 September 2019

In The Shadow Of The Moon (new)

Boyd Holbrook, Michael C. Hall, Billy Otis, and Gabrielle Graham are just some of the notable cast
members that are leading this Sci-Fi Thriller. The story revolves around a police officer who’s on the
hunt for a serial killer whose murders take place every nine years. If you’ve got just under two hours
and are in the mood for a good and suspenseful film, In The Shadow of The Moon won’t disappoint.
Release Date: 10 September 2019

Unbelievable (new)

Based on a true story, Unbelievable revolves around a teenager who reports a rape case but ends up
withdrawing it. The truth behind the case seems to be elusive until two female detectives investigate
the case and uncover the real story of the case. With a cast that includes Toni Collette, Merrit
Wever, and Kaitlyn Dever, audiences who are in the mood for a thrilling film will definitely enjoy
each moment.
Release Date: 13 September 2019

The I-Land (new)

What do you get when you mix 10 strangers, an unfamiliar island, and a bad case of amnesia that
has befallen on all of them? A promising epic season of The I-Land. The first season of this Science
Fiction thriller is due for release in September and sees the likes of Alex Pettyfer, Kate Bosworth,
Natalie Martinez, and Neil LaBute taking audiences on an epic journey that is nothing short of
captivating.
Release Date: 12 September 2019

Netflix Keeps Giving The People What They Want

And what do the people actually want when it comes to home entertainment? Well, a lot. People
want drama, comedy, sci-fi, documentaries, fantasies…you name it. Maybe people want this so that,
for just a couple of hours, they’re able to escape from some of the harsh realities of their current
lives. Or maybe they just want to wind down after a long day at work. Whatever they’re after,
judging by our list, Netflix has it and so much more.
